Maintenance windows

Silence alerts during planned work — one-off or recurring (daily, weekly, monthly) maintenance windows in your time zone, and how they show on monitors and status pages.

On this page

A maintenance window tells isituprightnow that some monitors are expected to be unavailable for a while — a deployment, a database upgrade, a hosting provider's planned work. During the window those monitors are not alerted on.

Maintenance windows are available on plans that include them — see Pricing.

Create a window#

Open Maintenance and choose Schedule maintenance:

Field API field Notes
Name name E.g. Weekly database maintenance.
Monitors monitorIds One or more monitors affected by the work.
Starts / Ends startsAt, endsAt The first (or only) occurrence.
Time zone timeZone An IANA time zone such as Europe/Bucharest. Times are kept in this zone.
Repeat recurrence None (one-off), daily, weekly or monthly.

Recurring windows#

  • A recurring window repeats the wall-clock time of its first occurrence in its time zone: a window at 02:00–03:00 stays at 02:00 local time across daylight-saving changes.
  • Weekly windows repeat on the same weekday; monthly windows on the same day of the month, and skip months that don't have that day (a window on the 31st doesn't run in April).
  • Maximum length of one occurrence: under 24 hours (daily), under 7 days (weekly), under 28 days (monthly), up to 31 days for a one-off window.

What happens during a window#

  • The affected monitors show Maintenance in the dashboard (the API reports inMaintenance: true).
  • They are still checked, but failures don't change their status, open incidents or send alerts.
  • On status pages the components show maintenance instead of an outage.
  • When the window ends, the next checks decide the status as usual. If the service is still down, an incident opens and alerts follow your alert rules.

With the API#

bash
curl -X POST https://api.isituprightnow.com/api/v1/maintenance-windows \
  -H "X-Api-Key: $IIUN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "name": "Weekly database maintenance",
    "monitorIds": ["8b0c7d3e-3f5a-4a49-9a51-2f1f0f4c6a10"],
    "startsAt": "2026-10-11T00:00:00Z",
    "endsAt": "2026-10-11T01:00:00Z",
    "recurrence": "weekly",
    "timeZone": "Europe/Bucharest"
  }'

A deployment script can create a one-off window right before it starts and delete it (DELETE /maintenance-windows/{id}) when it's done. See the API reference.
